We offer a wide range of educational and well-being support through our Postgraduate Medical Education team which is headed up by our Director of Medical Education and Medical Education Manager.
Our dedicated Foundation Team manage the in-house teaching programme for first and second year foundation doctors (Junior Doctors). In addition, there is the Internal Medicine Training programmes and surgical teaching.
All of our programmes are open to all doctors who are in a structured programme as well as our Clinical Fellows who work in the Trust.

As a new Consultant within our Trust, you will receive a comprehensive induction and onboarding schedule which will include access to a mentor, and our New Consultant Programme, where we will give you the opportunity to network with other consultant who are new to the Trust, meet and develop key working relationships with members of the Office of the Medical Director as well as other Executive members. In addition, we offer all our consultants a generous study leave package comprising of up to 30 days over three years and up to £1000 per year study leave budget.
Our consultants provide compassionate leadership to their clinical teams and are responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. Where appropriate, our consultants are also named in the educational contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.
Our Locum Doctors are fully qualified Doctors temporarily covering a position within our Trust. This could be to cover sick leave or support a temporary rise in demand on the service.
All doctors, other than a foundation year one doctor can work in a locum role. To be eligible, you must be fully registered with, and regulated by, the GMC.

Our Clinical Fellows develop and contribute to the continuing education, professional development, audit and research within our Trust and work with the consultants and other specialist registrar colleagues to integrate into the existing team.
These roles could be used to help improve doctors' chances to return to Specialty training, help complete a CESR programme within their chosen specialty or for trainees who are taking a planned year out of training.
All Clinical Fellow roles are advertised on our website with details of accreditation obtained.
Specialty Doctors have at least four years of postgraduate experience, two of which are in the chosen specialty. Therefore, Specialty Doctors can enter these posts having varying levels of experience and seniority which allows them to gain experience and promotion within the grade itself.
The Specialist grade was introduced in April 2021, to give Doctors the opportunity for more seniority, promotion and independent practice outside of the Consultant grade. Specialists require a minimum of 12 years of medical work, 6 of which at Specialty Doctor grade.

Clinical Fellow SpR Level in Spinal Surgery
(FULL TIME)
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow Speciality Registrar level in Spinal Surgery. Two posts to start February 2024 and a third post to start August 2024.
This post will be based at the Brunel Building, at the newly built Southmead Hospital.
This post is specifically aimed at Neurosurgeons and Orthopaedic Surgeons in their final year of training. For Orthopaedic Surgeons there is the possibility of participating in the orthopaedic on-call rota, for Neurosurgeons there may be provision to join the neurosurgery on-call rota. Neurosurgical trainees will be considered for this role.
The overall objective of the fellowship is for the successful candidate to be able to undertake spinal surgery to the level of a consultant by the end of the fellowship.

Work of the Department
The cases dealt with in Weston are mainly General Urology with a tertiary referral service provided for urethroplasty and penile cancer. The department offers primary management of all common urological conditions. Cases requiring specialised management are referred to Southmead Hospital.

The post is best suited for trainees at the end of their urological training or post-CCT and wish to pursue a sub-specialty career. There is also plenty opportunity to participate in the ongoing research in the department.
The post holder will participate in an on call rota, and will be responsible for the day to day management of ward patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.
Teaching
The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme and Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate in this activity.
The post holder will be available to undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required. In certain circumstances you may be required to cover a colleague’s clinical duties in order that they may deliver teaching sessions
Research
½ day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows/SpRs. There are several ongoing research projects and fellows are expected to participate in these projects as well as undertaking at least one audit project during their training.

Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) wishes to appoint a fellowship trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in foot and ankle. The candidate should have fellowship experience in this field. This post is a full time 10 PA position.
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.

Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgery - The post holder will be involved in a busy Hand & Wrist service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at North Bristol NHS Trust and University hospital Bristol. The post holder will be responsible to Mr Amirfeyz. They will be expected to have some previous experience in Hand, wrist and elbow surgery. They will be expected to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department.
Shoulder and Elbow Surgery - The post holder will be involved in a busy upper limb service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible to Mr Bott, Mr Crowther, Mr Packham and Mr Sarangi. They will be expected to have some previous experience in upper shoulder and elbow surgery. They will be expected to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department.
There will be an expectation to take on on call commitments and you will be paid accordingly for this.
To improve clinical skills in Anaesthesia and/or ICM at a Speciality Doctor Level To engage in research, teaching, simulation or quality improvement activities, under the guidance of a consultant from the department, with a view to enhancing your CV with clinical and generic professional responsibilities.
The post-holder will join the team of specialist Histopathologists within the department who collectively support the clinical services in Bristol and Weston. The service is delivered from a purpose-built Pathology centre built on the Southmead Hospital site. The department continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
