Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month 2024

We have been marking South Asian Heritage Month at NBT, and staff have been sharing what their heritage and culture means to them. Here, a couple of our nurses share their experiences:

NBT nurse, Thaminah Chowdhury shares her thoughts:

"I am proud to be a British Bangladeshi Nurse working in NBT.

"South Asian Heritage Month allows us to celebrate my beautiful heritage which has taught me great devotion and strength in the diversity we add to the NHS.

"Culture brings warmth and exciting changes whilst we all hope to meet the same purpose when connecting with others.

"My culture reminds me of the sacrifices that were made in the past, for today's diversity and connection we see in everyday life. Upholding and embracing my culture allows me to educate others and feel connected, especially in the NHS and the future colleagues that intend to join.

"I am honoured to work collaboratively alongside hardworking colleagues."

Pooja Poddar, Sister in Medical Day Care, said:

"For me, being of South Asian heritage is all about love towards mankind, respecting and educating cultural differences, working hard to achieve my goals.

"Working within North Bristol NHS trust for over 20 years, I have felt supported by my colleagues same as my family, this is what my culture has taught me.

"I have felt free to express myself and celebrate my happiness, whether it's Diwali or Guru Nanak jayanti."

It's South Asian Heritage Month and NBT staff are sharing what their heritage and culture means to them.
