Construction works on our £49.9 million Elective Centre at Southmead Hospital are moving into an exciting new phase with prefabricated units set to arrive onsite.
The Elective Centre is a joint project between North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), supported by Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board and NHS England, which will increase capacity across the area so that an additional 6,500 operations can be carried out a year.
A crane is being brought onto the construction site on Monday, 13 May to prepare for prefabricated units to be lifted into place to create the building.
These works will see lorries transporting the units onto the site at staggered points every day for four weeks and we want to provide advance warning of the disruption that is likely to be caused to vehicles accessing the hospital via the Monks Park Avenue entrance when lorries are arriving onsite
Every effort has been made to minimise the impact of these works, but if possible we advise you to use other entrances and routes around the site over the next four weeks, particularly at busier times of the day.
Traffic management will be in place to temporarily pause vehicles to enable lorries to turn into the hospital. It is anticipated that traffic will only be stopped for a few minutes at a time, but we acknowledge this could cause disruption, particularly at busy times.
Marshals will be located along Monks Park Avenue and on Monks Park Way within the hospital to support the flow of traffic.
The Elective Centre is an important project that will help reduce waiting times for people across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these works.
