The following media statement is in response to the publication by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) of reports about two medical and surgical wards and the intensive care unit at Southmead Hospital following a focused inspection in January 2024.
Professor Steve Hams, Chief Nursing Officer at North Bristol NHS Trust, said: “We welcomed the inspection by the CQC in January 2024, and the reports that have been published today and which found we have suitable training arrangements in place.
“Ensuring each of our staff has the appropriate level of training is incredibly important to us, and we will continue to ensure that this remains the case. We have also recently enhanced the training we provide through the introduction of a new training package around recognising and responding to a deteriorating patient, including sepsis and Acute Kidney Injury (AKIs).
“We are also always aspiring to improve and will continue to develop further in the areas of focus in the reports, including with the introduction of an enhanced 24/7 Acute Response Team for deteriorating patients, which is due to launch soon.”
The full reports are available on the CQC website.
