We are appealing for your help in returning any crutches you may have borrowed from us after an accident or injury.
Some people manage to return their crutches to us but there are plenty that never make it back to our Emergency Department.
If you have any crutches you’ve received from our emergency team sitting in a cupboard or taking up space anywhere else in your home we would be more than happy to take them off your hands again.
We can give them a spruce-up and then they can be put to good use again for other patients who need them.
Emergency Department Matron, Anna Bell, said: “We know that life is busy and sometimes when people have recovered from their injuries they just don’t get around to returning crutches to us, but what a lot of people don’t know is that we can re-use them for other patients and that they are a valuable resource for us in the NHS.
“If you can get along to our Emergency Department again to drop them off we would be incredibly grateful and will happily take them off your hands.
“Refreshing crutches in-house saves us money as it means we don’t have to replace them with new ones every time.”
When crutches are returned to us, they are cleaned up and refreshed so that they are as good as new once again to benefit another patient.
