Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal returned to Southmead Hospital in Bristol today to meet staff who cared for Her Royal Highness following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate in June 2024.

Her Royal Highness met some of the doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals involved in her care, treatment and discharge at the hospital, which is run by North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), during a tour of the building. 

The Princess Royal also met members of the NBT Trust Board, and colleagues from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness also heard a choir involving staff members from the hospital sing in the Atrium of Southmead Hospital. 

Maria Kane OBE, Joint Chief Executive of North Bristol NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome The Princess Royal to Southmead Hospital to show her round the building and for her to meet some of our amazing staff.

“We’re incredibly pleased that Her Royal Highness recovered so well and appreciated her taking the time out of her busy diary to visit us.”

Ingrid Barker DL, Joint Chair of North Bristol NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, added: “It was wonderful to see Her Royal Highness at Southmead Hospital today, and to show her round to meet some of our fabulous teams. We all really appreciated the visit and the opportunity for some of our staff to meet The Princess Royal.”

Professor Tim Whittlestone, Chief Medical Officer at North Bristol NHS Trust, added: “We really appreciated Her Royal Highness visiting us to meet some of the teams who cared for her. We were thrilled to see her looking so well and to talk to her about the work we do.”
