This week we are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2022 and the big difference our apprentices make here at NBT.
Many people think that apprenticeships are only for those starting out in their careers which couldn’t be more wrong. We offer apprenticeships to all NBT staff who are eligible.
Apprenticeships make a big difference. You earn while you learn, receive a recognised qualification, benefit from ongoing support, gain real work experience, improve your employability, and develop your skills.
Kirstie’s Traineeship for Employability journey
Kirstie completed the Traineeship for Employability in October 2020. She had a placement in the Pre-Op Assessment Department while taking the course.
Kirstie said: “When I first went for my interview for the Traineeship, I was very nervous, I was not confident at all. With COVID I had lost my job and was worried about how I was going to manage money-wise. I received the email/call to say I had been successful in my interview and had a place, I was so excited and nervous at the same time!
“I met the group I would be in and Celia our assessor was amazing, made me feel at ease and made the group sessions very interesting. While taking the course they find you a placement to work in. When Celia took me to my placement area to meet everyone, I was made to feel very comfortable and enjoyed every minute, learning how to use the systems used, meeting patients, and helping in any way when they were waiting to see the nurses.
“During the course, Celia always checked up on me, made sure I understood what I had to do and was only a telephone call or email away for support. She also helped me find a job after the course was over.
“I would recommend anyone to do this course, it has given me the confidence to believe in myself and it’s OK to ask for help when needed. I gained a qualification and a permanent position within the Trust.
“I would like to thank Celia and the Team for all their help and support through the process.”
