Male & Urinary Catheterisation and Supra-Pubic Catheter Changes
Length of course: 1 hour practical session
Who is it for? Registered nurses, midwives and other allied healthcare professionals caring for patients requiring a urinary catheter.
Pre-course requirements: Learners will have completed the pre-course eLearning on the Managed Learning Environment prior to booking a place on the practical session and will be expected to read the related policies beforehand.

Aim: This course will cover both insertion of a male urethral catheter and the re-insertion or change of a suprapubic catheter if required via simulation. By the end of the course learners will understand the anatomy of the male urinary system, procedural steps using aseptic technique, risks involved surrounding catheterisation including recognising autonomic dysreflexia and how to manage these.
