Severn Pathology, based at Southmead Hospital, aims to provide a best in class, high quality, innovative, value for money pathology service that serves the needs of the healthcare market in the South-West region. The multi-million pound, four storey building houses NBT’s cellular pathology, neuropathology, genetics and microbiology services and is part of the Science Quarter, which brings together NBT, UK Health Security Agency and the University of Bristol.
We also host dedicated dispensary and clinical pharmacy teams in our award-winning Brunel Building, optimising the use of medication to promote the health, wellness and disease prevention of patients.

×The laboratory within our Severn Pathology building accommodates all pathology disciplines including the Blood Sciences, Bristol Genetics Laboratory, a single Bristol Cellular Pathology Service and a combined Microbiology and Health Protection Agency service within one facility. We process samples sent from local GP Practices and hospitals, including Southmead Hospital, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
Our Pathology team work with colleagues to test more than 1 million samples per year in the labs at Southmead Hospital and it is estimated that pathology investigations are involved in 70-80% of all healthcare decisions about diagnosis and treatment.

Description
up to 3 permanent post available
25 hours per week to include 5 shifts per week Monday to Friday (4 Monday to Friday when on weekend rotation), every other weekend and rotational bank holidays.
Hours are as follows:
Saturday and Sunday (and bank holidays) = 07.00 - 11.00
Weekday shifts = 07.00 - 12.00, 08.00 - 13.00 and 12.00 until 17.00 if covering late clinics.
Duties will include blood sampling for patients on all acute wards, medical, surgical and high risk infection departments.
Also providing a service to the very busy and demanding blood sampling room, for patients attending clinics of varying specialities.
NICU, fistula and vascular training will also be provided.
Previous phlebotomy experience is preferred but all applicants will be considered.
Successful candidates will receive full up to date training and take a practical assessment to assess skill level.
Shortlisted applicants will be expected to complete and pass an assessment of basic numeracy and literacy prior to interview.
Candidates with previous experience will have to demonstrate their skill in a practical test.
This position will commence at Band 2, progressing to Band 3 after a minimum period of 6 months and on successful completion of further training and competencies, this can vary on time scale.

Description
- Act as a Clinical Scientist in GI and Urodynamics. Be a specialist in the field of Urology and GI, providing advice on practice, training and educational issues relating to the specialty.
- Perform all above investigations to a high professional standard, as defined by ICS and AGIP, and in keeping with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The service includes management and administration of hospital deaths, administration for post-mortems, preparing bodies for viewing and facilitating the provision of a limited number of invasive autopsy techniques.

Description
Design and deliver high quality teaching which is informed by significant professional experience gained via practice, research/study and teaching experience, to undergraduate students on the new MPharm programme - to include lectures, workshops, applied pharmacy practice skills sessions and supervision of dissertations or projects, assessment and marking and pastoral care of students, in line with Department and University policy. The successful candidate will have previous experience of using hospital pharmacy systems. Previous experience of working in the specialist area (haematology, oncology, technical services) or working with electronic prescribing systems (ChemoCare®, Aria or equivalent) is an advantage but not essential.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of clinical pharmacy services to the haematology directorate. The post holder will be an integral member of the Technical Services team, supporting with the implementation of the action plan from the Assurance of Aseptic Preparation of Medicines audit to continuously develop the service and maintain the unit’s low risk rating.
