I qualified from Calcutta National Medical College, India (Calcutta University) in 2004 and then moved to the UK. I completed my postgraduate medical training in the Yorkshire Deanery. My specialist training in cardiology was undertaken in the Severn Deanery. After core cardiology training, I undertook a period of out of programme research studying the novel diagnostic role of cardiac magnetic resonance in acute coronary syndrome, culminating in the award of a PhD from University of Bristol (March 2020). I have got >100 publications in high impact journals and won multiple international and national young investigator awards. My sub-specialist cardiology training in coronary intervention was undertaken in the South West. I was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at the North Bristol NHS Trust and Bristol Heart Institute in May 2020.
I am an associate editor for European Heart Journal – Case Reports, and reviewer for various cardiology journals. I am actively involved in research and an investigator for various research studies.
I have an active interest in teaching. I have supervised >15 University of Bristol medical students in their eSSC projects. I am regularly invited to teach and lecture at various international, national and local meetings/conferences (European Society of Cardiology Congress, EuroPCR, British Cardiovascular Society Conference, Advanced Cardiac Intervention meeting, EuroCMR, SCMR etc). I am currently a mentor for the national cardiology mentorship programme.
My specialist interests include complex coronary intervention, management of coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction with non-obstructed coronary artery (MINOCA), out of hospital cardiac arrest, cardiomyopathy and research into the causes and treatment of acute coronary syndromes (heart attacks), heart failure and MINOCA.
I am fully trained in all aspects of general cardiology, coronary intervention, intravascular imaging, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging(ESC level 3 accreditation), heart failure and hypertension. I am part of the regional (tertiary) 24/7 heart attack service (primary PCI) at Bristol Heart Institute.
Dr Amardeep Dastidar professional memberships include European Society of Cardiology, British Cardiovascular Society, Bristish Cardiovascular Intervention Society and European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions.
