Test name: Foetal leak investigation a.k.a. Kleihauer
Condition / Indication: A test to indicate if prophylactic anti-D is required following a suspected fetal bleed or postnatally. Usually indicated in Rh negative mothers only. However can be undertaken on Rh positive mothers under special circumstance. In these cases, please contact the laboratory.
Special precautions & notes: Send two EDTA samples (clearly labelled). One from Mother and Cord sample from Baby. If found to be positive (>2ml bleed) the sample will be referred outside the laboratory to NHSBT Filton.
