Test name: Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase a.k.a. G6PD
Condition / Indication: To determine the presence of glucose-6 dehydrogenase deficiency in the blood. In patients with G6PD deficiency, oxidative haemolysis may becaused by various drugs, foods or during acute illness.
Special precautions & notes: Copper & sulphate ions may result in decreased G6PD activity. As reticulocytes have increased G6PD levels, patients in haemolytic crisis may have a falsely increase level. Anaemia and leucocytosis are possible interferences.
Reference range: Normal, Intermediate or Deficient
