Special precautions & notes: Sample must arrive in the lab within 15 minutes to be centrifuged. Once the plasma is separated from the cells, the lactate level is more stable. Not suitable for requesting from GPs. Risk of falsely elevated results if delay in transport.

Reference range: 0.5 - 2.2 mmol/L
