Special precautions & notes: Sample taken 7 days before anticipated onset of menstruation, can give a guide to whether ovulation has occurred.
Reference range: Follicular: <4 nmol/L, Luteal: >12 nmol/L. When measured 7 days before onset of menses, progesterone >30 nmol/L confirms ovulation. A result 12-30 should be repeated with careful timing. Repeat results >12 nmol/L, in the presence of regular cycles, is consistent with normal ovulation.
