Sample type: Whole Blood
Test name: Reticulocytes a.k.a. RET
Condition / Indication: Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells. A Reticulocyte count is useful in the diagnosis of certain types of anaemia, disorders of the bone marrow, liver or kidneys. It can also be used to monitor the bone marrow function after treatment or transplant. Raised reticulocyte counts are observed in cases of haemolysis. Ret-He <25 pg suggests iron deficient erythropoiesis. Ret-he <30.6 may also predict possible benefit from intravenous iron.
