A full range of diabetes and endocrinology services are provided at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, following appropriate referral from your GP.
The diabetes service is a multi-professional team. It includes Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Specialist Dietitians. The Diabetes Service also has strong links with the Clinical Health Psychology Team who provide psychological support for those with chronic conditions, and Podiatrists who provide the Outpatient Diabetes Foot Service.
The Diabetes Service delivers a variety of specialist diabetes clinics. All appointments within the Diabetes Service will include an assessment of the person with diabetes and an opportunity to provide advice around any issues with managing the condition. Potential issues may concern; diabetes medication, diet, education, risk factors and complications. The Diabetes Team at Southmead Hospital has a keen interest in supporting people with diabetes with the latest diabetes technologies.
Although your diabetes appointments will be held at Southmead Hospital, it is still important to attend your annual diabetes review at your GP surgery.
The Endocrinology Service provides a service for patients with a variety of endocrine conditions requiring specialist support. This will include clinical assessment and investigations, such as dynamic endocrine function testing, as appropriate.
